Manthoraya Bhawani Temple, which has religious and historical importance in Dang, has been under shadow. The temple is located at Uttar Marai in Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City-10. The religious heritage has been overshadowed by a lack of publicity and conservation. A religious belief has it that by visiting the temple and offering worship, one will overcome all sufferings and fulfil desires. A fair is also held for three days at the Manthorya temple during the Maghi festival in January. Govinda Chaudhary, a local, said that no regular worship is performed at the temple. However, the people visit it and perform worship when they are in trouble, he added.
Ganga Pariyar from Kawasoti Municipality-2, Nawalpur, borrowed Rs. 300,000 from local lender Bimala Tiwari in 2016. The interest for three months, calculated at a daily rate of Rs. 500, was already added to the loan. As time passed, the interest compounded. According to Ganga, by 2024, the interest alone had reached Rs. 700,000. Unable to repay the amount, Ganga, despite her husband's objections, transferred a two-and-a-half-story house worth approximately Rs. 6.5 million located at BP Chowk to Bimala's name. To reclaim the house, Ganga approached the police and administrative authorities. She also filed a petition with the Loan Shark Victims' Struggle Committee. Later, Bimala, showing integrity, returned the house after she received her Rs. 700,000 as interest amount. Ganga's joy knew no bounds when she got her lost house back.
Kulekhani Hydropower Project will now operate only during critical times since the water level has diminished in the Kulekhani Reservoir, the only reservoir-based project in the country located at Indrasarovar of Makwanpur district. The water level in Indrasarovar is 1,485.01 metres above sea level and it can collect water up to a height of 1,530 metres above sea level. According to Kulekhani I Hydropower Centre head Tara Dutta Bhatta, the water level of Indrosarovar was measured at 1,484.95 metres above sea level on Monday. He informed that earlier the water level had decreased in 2001. Since, the water level has decreased at present, electricity will be generated only during emergencies, he added.
Urlabari Municipality in Morang district has unveiled a budget of Rs. 1.56 billion for the fiscal year 2024/25. Deputy Mayor Meena Kumari Khatiwada presented the budget during the 12th Municipal Assembly on Wednesday. The proposed budget is less by Rs. 80.31 million than the previous fiscal year's budget. For the fiscal year 2023/24, the municipality's actual income was Rs. 87.77 million, significantly less than the proposed amount. Current expenses accounted for Rs. 361.9 million out of the allocated Rs. 560.83 million while capital expenditure reached Rs. 333.7 million out of Rs. 560.64 million. For the current fiscal year, the municipality anticipates receiving financial support from the federal and provincial governments, including funds from financial equalisation, special grants, and various subsidies totalling Rs. 526 million. Additionally, Rs. 100 million is expected from value-added tax distribution and public participation. Expenses include Rs. 140.91 million for administration, with allocations for city pride projects, disaster management, and municipal programmes amounting to Rs. 27.08 million.
Even three years after the local election, the waste management issue in Janakpurdham, which was a top priority during the election campaign, remains unresolved. Manoj Kumar Sah, Mayor of Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City, had pledged to prioritise the complex issue of waste management when he was elected as an independent candidate in the 2022 local elections. He had also committed to generating income from waste and producing compost. However, even in the third year of his tenure, he has not been able to fulfil these commitments. At that time, he had criticised previous representatives for their inability to address the waste issue, but he too has not been able to meet his election commitments in his third year. After being elected, Mayor Sah added new cleaning staff and vehicles for waste management. Despite these additions, the situation of waste in Janakpurdham remains unchanged. The newly purchased vehicles and hired cleaning staff have not collected waste beyond the main market, squares, and streets.
