Humla, May 17: More than 13,500 domestic and foreign tourists have visited the Rara Lake, one of the famous tourist destinations of Karnali Province, over the past nine months.

With the start of the travel season to Rara, the number of domestic tourists has also increased in recent days.

According to the office of Rara National Park, a total of 13,545 domestic and foreign tourists visited Rara during the last nine months.

These visitors travelled to Rara by both air and land routes. Situated at an altitude of 2,900 metres above sea level, Rara Lake has increasingly become a preferred destination among domestic tourists.

President of the Rara Lake Stone Business Association, Bishnu Bahadur Rawal, said that up to 150 domestic tourists have started arriving daily.

He informed that Rara has become more popular among domestic tourists than foreigners. He further stated that the number of tourists has increased even more since the government introduced a two-day public holiday.

Tourists from Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan, Nepalgunj and Surkhet have also been arriving by reserved buses.

As a result, hotels established in the Rara area have been operating at full capacity. Eighty horses have been arranged along the Rara access route, making it easier for tourists to travel from the entry point to Rara Lake.
