By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, may.1: Journalist and literary writer Amarendra Yadav, associated with The Rising Nepal, has been honoured with the Pragya Mother Tongue Award-2082 on Thursday.
The award was conferred by the Nepal Academy in recognition of Yadav’s more than three decades of contribution to the promotion of the Maithili language and literature.
He was felicitated at a special function held at the Nepal Academy Hall in Kamaladi, Kathmandu. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 100,000. On the occasion, several other literary figures were also honoured with the Pragya Mother Tongue Award and Pragya Provincial Award for their contributions.
Yadav has been actively engaged in Maithili literary writing for the past three decades. In addition, he has dedicated more than 20 years to journalism, working across Maithali, Nepali and English languages. He has been working with this daily for nearly 14 years, contributing to both the newsroom and editorial desk.
His Maithili poetry collection ‘Stri Aa Aaig’, published in 2078 B.S., earned him the Nepal Vidyapati Manuscript Award-2077 B.S. He has also edited a multilingual poetry anthology titled ‘Bhavpreeta’, which features 100 poems by 50 poets representing 10 different languages.
Yadav has authored more than 100 songs, ghazals, poems, muktaks, and short stories in the Maithili language, many of which have been published in various magazines and newspapers. He has also written numerous articles and essays in both Nepali and Maithili, which have appeared in several national dailies.
