Buddha Jayanti, Ubhauli, may day greetings

BY A STAFF REPORTER, Kathmandu, May.1: President  has extended best wishes for happiness, peace and prosperity to all Nepalis at home and abroad on the occasions of the 2570th Buddha Jayanti, Ubhauli festival, and International Workers’ Day.

In a message on Buddha Jayanti, President Paudel stated that Buddha’s teachings have played a significant role in promoting peace, tolerance and harmony across the world. Emphasising that Nepal, being the birthplace of Buddha, is a matter of pride, he underscored the importance of internalising Buddha’s teachings to further strengthen national unity.

Similarly, on the occasion of the Ubhauli festival, the President extended best wishes to the Kirat community, including Rai, Limbu, Yakkha, and Sunuwar groups. 

The message states that the cultural and agricultural significance of the festival marks the seasonal transition and the beginning of plantation activities. 

He also pointed out that the festival strengthens mutual goodwill, social harmony and cultural diversity. 
He said that Ubhauli, associated with seasonal change and nature worship, highlights the deep relationship between people, nature, and ancestral traditions and helps reinforce social unity.
On International Workers’ Day, the President pointed out the need to uphold the dignity, rights and welfare of workers. He stressed the effective implementation of constitutional provisions ensuring labour rights, fair wages and social security. 
He also pointed out that both workers and entrepreneurs have vital roles in boosting domestic production, fostering entrepreneurship and building a self-reliant economy, calling for the creation of a dignified work environment.
The President expressed hope that these occasions would inspire all citizens to promote peace, tolerance, unity, and respect for labour, contributing to the nation’s overall prosperity.
