By Janu Pandey, Kapilvastu, April 15: Two Pakistani women have been arrested on charges of stealing gold jewelry from Chandrauta in Shivraj Municipality of Kapilvastu.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Ripendra Kumar Singh, a team from the Ward Police Office, Chandrauta, apprehended the suspects.
The arrested individuals have been identified as 20 year old Bibi Kalsum and 41 year old Shabana.
Police said Pakistani passports were also recovered from their possession.
According to the police, the women entered a jewelry shop on the evening of April 13 at around 5:30 PM, posing as regular customers. They allegedly stole gold ornaments under the pretext of purchasing them.
Police investigation has revealed that after leaving the shop, the women attempted to conceal their identity by wearing burqas over their masks.
Authorities also found evidence linking them to another theft at a gold and silver shop in the Yogikuti area.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the two women were involved in thefts at three locations: Yogikuti in Rupandehi, Taulihawa in Kapilvastu, and Chandrauta.
Police said the suspects used a method of showing cash and asking to inspect jewelry before stealing the gold items.
The Ward Police Office, Chandrauta, said further investigation is underway under charges of theft and fraud.
