Kathmandu, Apr. 7: The 5th edition of the Nepal Rural Film Festival (NERUFF) is set to take place from April 28 to 30 in Sarlahi.

The festival, intending to promote films based on original Nepali rural narratives, will this time be held in Chandranagar Rural Municipality of Madhesh Province.

The organiser stated that while previous editions were successfully held in hilly regions, this year the festival is being expanded to the Tarai.

More than 50 applications have been received in the categories of feature films, short films, and films in various languages, all based on original Nepali rural storylines, informed the organiser.

Among them, the films selected by the jury panel will be screened at the festival, while the best ones will be awarded in different categories.

At the festival, short films, documentaries, feature films, and films in various languages reflecting rural life will be screened free of charge for village audiences.

According to President of Celebrity Nepal Ragunath Sapkota, the main objectives of the festival are to increase audience attraction toward original Nepali films, develop a regular culture of film viewing, take rural story-based cinema to the international level, and promote local languages, art, culture, and tourism.

Previously, the festival has already been successfully held in Laprak of Gorkha, Bhakundebesi of Kavrepalanchok, Ramechhap, and Rasuwa.

The festival will be organised in collaboration with the Film Development Board and Chandranagar Rural Municipality.
