Russian Film Days inaugurated at NIFF

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Apr. 4 :‘Russian Film Days’ has been officially inaugurated under the Nepal International Film Festival (NIFF) at the Russian House on Friday. 

Speaking at the event, Chargé d’Affaires and Minister Counsellor of Russia to Nepal, Rinchen Soksayev, highlighted the significant impact of cinema on society and emphasised the importance of maintaining harmony among professionals in the film industry.

 He noted that ‘Russian Film Days’ has been continuously working towards this goal. He also shared his experience of meeting the director, actress and cinematographer of Nepal’s first colour film, ‘Kumari,’ during the opening of the ninth edition of NIFF.

Director of the Russian House in Kathmandu, Anastasia Khakkhlova invited everyone to participate in the ongoing film festival and the AI film workshop organised at the Russian House in collaboration with NIFF.

NIFF President KP Pathak expressed confidence that this collaboration would further strengthen the relationship between the two countries.

The event featured the screening of the historical thriller film ‘August,’ based on events from the final phase of the Second World War. The film portrays the efforts of a Soviet counter-intelligence agency to prevent a possible rear attack on the advancing Red Army. It is co-directed by Ilya Lebedev and Nikita Vysotsky.

Other films to be screened under Russian Film Days include ‘The Challenge,’ ‘The Dino Family’ and ‘All Wrong Girl.’ Directed by Klim Shipenko, ‘The Challenge’ is the first film ever shot in space, depicting the story of a doctor who performs a life-saving surgery aboard a space station under zero-gravity conditions.

‘The Dino Family,’ directed by Maksim Volkov, is an adventure family film about a teenage girl who accidentally travels to the dinosaur era and struggles for survival. ‘All Wrong Girl,’ directed by Ivanova Aleksandra, addresses the issue of bullying among school students.
