By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Apr. 2: Akriti Shrestha has been crowned the winner of ‘The National Designer Runway 2026’, a fashion competition dedicated to women designers. Along with the title, she received a cash prize of Rs. 25,000.

Anisha Thapa was named the first runner-up, while Yunika Rai secured the second runner-up. Among the other honours, Samjhana KC won the ‘Most Popular’ title, while Bibika Poudel was recognised as ‘Best Runway Model’ for her confidence and elegant walk on the runway.

A total of 19 female designers from across the country participated in this year’s edition, organised by Eventoz Nepal.

The contestants showcased striking and contemporary collections designed for female models, with many outfits reflecting a seamless blend of tradition and modernity. Their creations captivated the audience and added glamour to the runway.

A large number of this year’s designs appeared to draw inspiration from international red-carpet fashion, featuring bold cuts, flowing gowns, high slits, sequin detailing, metallic tones and elegant silhouettes. Several collections also echoed the dramatic styles often seen on Hollywood and Bollywood celebrities, incorporating off-shoulder designs, deep necklines, dramatic trails and fusion couture.

Adding a distinct Nepali identity, some designers used Dhaka fabric, handmade textiles and traditional motifs, pairing them with modern cuts to create a balance between local heritage and global fashion trends.

The finale was judged by Bishal Gurung, Swikriti Pyakurel, Suchita Saachi and Ashwini Jha, who evaluated the entries on the basis of originality, presentation, creativity and overall impact.
