BY A STAFF REPORTER,Kathmandu, Mar. 22: Renowned Darjeeling-based singer and composer Durga Kharel is set to perform at the upcoming edition of Paleti musical series, a long-running musical event hosted at Nepalaya.
Organised on the last Friday of every month at Nepalaya’s r-sala, Paleti is a compact yet influential musical programme that has been running for over two decades, promoting acoustic and meaningful Nepali music.
A well-known name among Nepali-speaking audiences, Kharel rose to popularity with songs such as Bolaun Bhane Timilai Baat Lagne Dar. He is also recognised for his musical partnership with his brother Badri Kharel, popularly known as the Badri-Durga duo. This time, however, Kharel will present melodies inspired by songs he grew up listening to in Darjeeling.
The event will also feature Abhigya Ghimire, Paleti’s in-house vocalist, who will revive classic tunes from the past. Having been mentored in the circle of legendary composer Gopal Yonjan, Kharel was exposed early to works by prominent creators like Amber Gurung and Shanti Thatal. His performance will revisit that rich musical era, featuring compositions from several notable artists.
According to programme coordinator Abhas, the event aims to preserve and promote older, lesser-recorded musical works. The programme will be held on March 27 and 28.
