By Prem Raj Simkhada, Kalikot, Mar. 20: Heavy snowfall since Tuesday night in the hilly regions of Kalikot has lowered temperatures, disrupting daily life. Several hills and settlements in the Lekali area are now blanketed in snow, with the cold intensifying.

According to local resident Himal KC, continuous snowfall in areas such as Lata and Jakhuna has made it difficult for herders to move their livestock in pastures. Cattle, goats, and sheep have been affected as snow covers their shelters, leaving herders struggling to care for them.

In some areas, a mix of snow, hail, and fog has reduced visibility, making it even more challenging to graze animals in the forests. Jung Bahadur Khadka of Raskot-2 reported that although snowfall has brought cold conditions to Thadamela and Chanipani, dense fog has made it difficult to locate the direction of the herds.

The extreme cold has particularly affected children, the elderly, and the sick. Local authorities have advised residents to stay indoors except for essential tasks and to wear warm clothing. After a long gap, snowfall has made villages even colder.

While the snowfall has disrupted daily life, it has also added to the region’s natural beauty. The snow-covered hills have created picturesque scenes, prompting locals and visitors to take photographs and create TikTok content. Tourists heading towards Rara have been seen stopping at Koterdarwar Hill in the district headquarters to capture the scenic views.
