BY LILADHAR WALI,Ghorahi, Mar. 13: Construction of the Sewara Khola Bridge in Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City-16, Dang, has seen 50 per cent physical progress. The bridge falls under the Ghorahi-Tulsipur road section, and with only about three months remaining before the construction deadline, half of the work has been completed.

According to Engineer Suresh Chaudhary of the Bridge Sector Office, Banke, the lower structure of the four-lane bridge, including the construction of pillars as part of the sub-structure, has been completed. Engineer Chaudhary stated that after completing the sub-structure, preparations are underway to begin work on the superstructure. As part of the superstructure, one of the two spans of the bridge is scheduled to be cast by mid-April.

Engineer Chaudhary said, “The bridge’s sub-structure has been completed. Preparations are underway to cast one span by Chaitra. After this work is completed, the second span will be cast.”

Although efforts were made to complete the bridge within the contract period, some delays have occurred, according to Engineer Chaudhary. The contract for the four-lane bridge was awarded to M.S. Raymaji Construction JV, Kathmandu, on June 13, 2023. As per the agreement, the construction company was expected to finish the bridge by June 11, 2026.

The 70-metre-long and 20.5-metre-wide bridge was contracted for Rs. 232,243,300, informed the Bridge Sector Office, Banke. So far, the construction company has received approximately 41 per cent of the payment, totalling Rs. 95,21 million. Construction company representative Prakash Rana said that although preparations were made to complete the bridge within the contract period, budget constraints have caused delays.

Once the Sewara Khola Bridge is completed, it is expected to resolve traffic problems on the Ghorahi-Tulsipur road section during the rainy season. Alongside Sewara Khola, four-lane bridges are under construction at Hapur Khola and Kala Khola, and a two-lane bridge is being built at Gwara Khola on the same road section.
