Election police bid farewell nationwide

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 13: Election police temporarily hired and deployed to ensure the security of the House of Representatives elections have completed their service and were formally bid farewell amidst various functions across the country.

The Nepal Police recruited 133,980 election police, while the Armed Police Force deployed 15,110 personnel for 40 days to provide security during the elections.

The House of Representatives elections were peacefully conducted March 5, and with vote counting now complete, the election police were formally bade farewell on Thursday with letters of appreciation, according to Nepal Police Spokesperson DIG Abi Narayan Kafle.

The Armed Police Force also bade farewell to its election police on Thursday. DIG Bishnu Prasad Bhatta, Spokesperson for the Armed Police Force, confirmed that those deployed for election security were bidden farewell today.

The government provided each election police officer with a salary of Rs. 34,776 for the 40-day deployment. In addition, they received Rs. 846 to cover ration and travel expenses. Daily snack allowances of Rs. 300 were also provided for four days, and separate funds were allocated for uniforms, according to DIG Kafle.

Meanwhile, our Syangja correspondent Radha Krishna Dumre said that the election police personnel deployed during the House of Representatives election were honoured and bid farewell.

The farewell and appreciation certificate distribution programmes were organised at various locations across Syangja district.

Separate programmes were held at the District Police Office, Syangja, Ward Police Office Waling, Area Police Office Chapakot and Area Police Office Chisapani.

Syangja Police Chief and SP Dadhiram Neupane said that the election police were honoured with appreciation letters in recognition of their contribution to election security.

Most of the election police personnel attended the programme and expressed that they were highly enthusiastic while performing their duties during the election.

A total of 2,115 election police personnel were deployed in Syangja district to maintain security during the election. Police personnel were brought in from other districts to address shortages in Nepal Police and Armed Police Force units.

A total of 67 personnel were brought from Tanahun, 139 from Kaski and 290 from Nawalparasi, while 1,619 election police were selected within the district.

During the election period, they were deployed at various polling centres and sensitive locations, and they played an important role in maintaining security. The District Police Office in Syangja stated that personnel who made notable contributions to election security were honoured during the programme.
