By Radha Krishna Dumre, Syangja, March 7: Three fugitives who had been absconding for years were arrested in Syangja district while attempting to cast their votes during the election, police said.
According to the District Police Office, Syangja, the individuals had been living in hiding but were apprehended after arriving at their respective polling stations to vote.
Among those arrested was 40-year-old Prem Bahadur Darji of Arjun Chaupari Rural Municipality–5. He was detained on March 5 while going to vote at the Talpokhari polling station near his home.
Police said Darji had been convicted in a murder case and sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Similarly, 58-year-old Buddhiman Shahi of Suraudi, Putalibazar Municipality–5, was arrested while going to vote at the Katunjechaur polling station in the same ward. He had been sentenced to three days in jail and fined Rs 263,000 in two separate banking offence cases.
Another fugitive, 74-year-old Ram Bahadur Kami of Saradi, Aandhikhola Rural Municipality–4, was arrested while attempting to vote at the Sepat Siranchaur polling station. He had been sentenced to two years, five months and 13 days in prison along with a fine of Rs 25,000 in a polygamy case.
All three arrested individuals have been sent to the Syangja District Court, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Prasanna Raj Chaudhary, information officer at the District Police Office, Syangja.
