By Binaya Karna,Kalyanpur (Saptari), Mar. 6: Voting has been completed at the District Prison Office in Rajbiraj, Saptari. A total of 68 individuals, including prisoners and staff, cast their votes during the polling that began at 7:00 am.
According to the temporary voter list prepared by the District Election Office for the House of Representatives election, the names of 69 inmates were registered at the prison. Of them, 66 prisoners cast their votes under the proportional representation system, informed polling officer Umesh Kumar Aryal.
There were a total of 73 registered voters at the prison, including 69 inmates and four staff members. Acting jailer Sushil Karn said that among the 69 inmates, two had completed their prison sentences and were released, while one had been transferred to another facility, leaving 66 inmates eligible to vote.
Similarly, two staff members also cast their ballots, bringing the total number of votes cast to 68, he added.
Similarly, voting at the District Prison in Bhojpur has recorded a 100 per cent turnout.
According to Chief of the District Election Office, Bhojpur, Dikendra Subedi, all 46 eligible voters cast their ballots. The prison initially had 47 registered voters, but one inmate was released prior to the voting, leaving 46 eligible voters, all of whom participated in the poll.
Across the district, 123,379 voters, including 59,253 women and 64,125 men—are casting their ballots at 161 polling centres.
Voters have been seen turning up at polling stations with considerable enthusiasm to exercise their right to vote.
