By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 6: Ayan Publication, based in New Delhi, India, has brought out an anthology of selected Nepali poems translated into Hindi.
Jointly edited by Bhisma Upreti from Nepal and Dr. Kishor Sinha from India, the book features poems by 24 Nepali poets included in Hindi translation.
The anthology also provides brief introductions to the poets along with notes on their poetic tendencies and literary contributions.
The book includes poems by Manjul, Dinesh Adhikari, Laxmi Mali, Sneh Sayami, Ramesh Kshitij, Avaya Shrestha, Bhisma Upreti, Bidhan Acharya, Bishwa Sigdel, Chandra Gurung, Janu Dhital, Jaya Chhangchha, Jyoti Jungle, Keshav Sigdel, Krishna Prasai and Mahesh Paudyal. Likewise, poems by Moni Bijay, Naaz Singh, R. Manandhar, Rajkumar Shrestha, Ranjana Niraula, Rup Singh Bhandary, Sushmita Nepal and Tanka Upreti have also been included in the anthology.
The translations from Nepali into Hindi are done by several translators, including Kosha Gurung, Rajkumar Shrestha, Bidhan Acharya, Bishwa Sigdel, Chandra Gurung, Sanat Kumar Wasti, Arjun Nirala, Suman Pokharel, Amiya Bindu, Dr. Devendranath Shukla, Dr. Gomadevi Sharma, Moni Bijay, Naaz Singh and Gopal Ashk.
Celebrated poet Manjul has two poems included in the anthology. Another noted poet, Dinesh Adhikari, also has two poems featured in the book.
One of his poems titled 'Tum Kaun Ho' questions a person who is afraid of light, raising the intriguing question of who such a person might be.
Poet Bhisma Upreti contributes three short poems titled 'Khusbu,' 'Chaloge To,' and 'Pandhra Minute.' Similarly, two poems by Avaya Shrestha titled 'Satyaka Sakshi' and 'Bagi Kavi' are included in the collection.
Bhisma Upreti, the editor from Nepal, notes that the anthology presents only a glimpse of Nepali poetry.
"This small anthology cannot cover all the representative works of Nepali poetry," Upreti admits in his editorial note. "That is why we have included only a sample selection of Nepali poems."
Dr. Kishor Sinha, co-editor from India, observes that the poems included in the book vividly portray Nepali society and lifestyle.
"These poems can be regarded as representative creations of Nepali poetry," he said.
