By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 5: The election for the members of House of Representatives (HoR) is scheduled to be held on Thursday.
The election will be conducted for 165 seats under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system and for 110 seats under the proportional representation (PR) system. The election is going to take place from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, where voters can cast their votes by reaching the designated polling centres.
In this election, there are 18,903,689 registered voters, including 9,663,358 men, 9,240,131 women and 200 others.
The Commission has also reported that 186,142 temporary voters have been registered.
For the election, 65 political parties are contesting under 61 election symbols in the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system. Under this electoral system, a total of 3,406 candidates are in the race, 3,017 men, 388 women and one other.
Similarly, under the Proportional Representation (PR) system, 3,135 candidates are competing, including 1,363 men and 1,772 women. For the PR system, 63 political parties are contesting under 57 election symbols.
For the election, 23,112 polling centres have been designated across 10,967 polling stations nationwide.
A total of 143 temporary polling locations have also been established.
To ensure security, 79,727 personnel from the Nepali Army, 75,797 from Nepal Police, 34,576 from the Armed Police Force, 1,921 from the National Investigation Department and 149,090 temporary election police personnel have been deployed. A total of 215,000 staff will be mobilised for the election.
The Commission has printed a total of 42,251,200 ballot papers for both the FPTP and PR electoral systems combined.
Out of the total, 20,323,000 ballot papers have been printed under the FPTP, 20,830,000 ballot papers have been printed under the PR system and 1,098,200 model ballot papers have been printed for voter education purposes.
The FPTP ballot papers will feature the election symbol printed in red on a white background, while the PR ballot papers will display the election symbol in black on a white background.
According to the Commission, four international and 39 national organisations have been deployed to observe this election.
