By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 3: Nepali folk-rock band Nepathya lit up Siliguri with their electrifying performance on Saturday evening.
According to a press release issued by Nepalaya, lead singer Amrit Gurung performed a total of 17 songs, interspersing performances with personal reflections and anecdotes.
The evening featured much-loved numbers, including ‘Karnalika Chhaila’, inspired by the rhythms of Nepal’s Karnali region, and ‘Koshiko Pani Yo Jindagani’, reflecting the folk traditions of the eastern plains.
The band concluded the programme with the song ‘Gaun Gaun Bata Utha’, prompting an enthusiastic response from the crowd. Among those in attendance was Neeraj Zimba of the Bharatiya Janata Party, who shared a photograph on social media after meeting Gurung before the show.
“For those of us raised in the hills, Nepathya is not merely a musical band but a collective identity,” he wrote.
Raju Bista, Member of Parliament and national spokesperson of the BJP, echoed similar sentiments online. He described the band as “a symbol of our language, culture and unity” for thousands of admirers across Siliguri, Darjeeling, the Dooars, Sikkim and North Bengal, as mentioned in the press release.
Gurung was joined on stage by drummer Dhruv Lama, bassist Subin Shakya, guitarist Niraj Gurung, madal player Shanti Rayamajhi and keyboardist Dinesh Raj Regmi, whose collective performance drew repeated applause throughout the evening.
Local organiser Positive Vibes said that hosting a Nepali-language musical event of this scale in Siliguri for the first time had offered valuable insights into promotion and event management.
Following the successful engagement, the band’s musical, technical and management teams have returned to Nepal. The Siliguri concert marked Nepathya’s first overseas performance of 2026, with further international appearances scheduled in the months ahead.
