PM Karki appeals to voters to actively participate in HoR election

Kathmandu, March 2: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has appealed to all voters to actively participate in the House of Representatives (HoR) election scheduled for March 5 so that country would make headway to political stability and prosperity.

In her address to the nation today, PM Karki reminded the Nepalis to decide their and children's future through the voting. "Casting votes is not simply stamping on ballot papers and electing leaders, but a moment to determine the future- of yours and your children," PM Karki stressed, urging all voters to reach the nearby voting centres and cast ballots by brushing aside all other activities coming Thursday, March 5. 

"On the eve of HoR election, I request all of you to maintain peace and order. Peace is Nepalis' identity," the PM stated. 

According to her, country is at a decisive moment, so the March 5 election is the time to determine the individual and country's future. She shared that she had taken the leadership at a difficult time of history. "I've taken it as my responsibility towards nation to give leadership to the country by handling the critical situation," the Head of government said, "I always stood for justice and honesty, carrying out my duty accordingly. After some days, the country would be led by the representatives you're going to elect through the March 5 election."

The PM also hoped exchange of greeting and happiness on Holi festival. "Let's make the March 5 election peaceful, fair and historic," she appealed. 

She further reminded the critical, challenging and difficult time following the Gen Z movement. "Transition from the violent state to a peaceful solution and bringing country back on a constitutional track was first priority," PM Karki informed. 

Election for living democracy

PM Karki thanked all political parties and independent candidates for their readiness of election fray."Your activism makes our democracy living. Election is held in a healthy and competitive atmosphere. There are varying opinions, but we should not harbour misunderstanding and enmity," she underscored. 

The PM urged political parties, candidates and supporters to abide by election code and respect each other to make the election a dignified exercise.  

"I extend my special thanks to the Election Commission, friends in the security agencies, and all the government employees who are engaged in this great mission," the PM said in her address. "This election will conclude fairly, independently, and in fear-free atmosphere because of the impartiality and hard work on the part of all of you."

She said that the cultural festival Holi or Phagu Purnima, the celebration of color, and the election preparations are equally meaningful for us. "At this point, I feel content to see that we have arrived at present by passing through such a transition. We have been successful in moving towards the path of constitutional stability by establishing the rule of law," the PM said. "This achievement is an outcome of the patience and collaboration of yours and ours, the entire Nepali citizens."

Stating that all preparations for concluding the elections as scheduled were made by the Election Commission in a short and challenging time, the Prime Minister said the government and the EC are fully committed to conducting the election in an fair, and fear-free atmosphere.

"The province and local governments have significantly contributed to the election preparations within their respective jurisdictions. The government and all four security agencies have mobilised their respective resources in line with their capacities without any compromises," PM Kaki reminded.

The Head of the interim government has, individually and on behalf of the government, extended heartfelt gratitude to the President for the role he played as a guardian in the election preparations. She also thanked all friendly nations and international organizations for their encouraging support and assistance, including physical, monetary, and technical support in election management. Karki acknowledged the support from the United Nations (UN) agencies for election purposes. 

Surveillance intact against fabricated content

"I hereby inform you all that the government continues its surveillance of those forces aiming to spoil the election atmosphere by disseminating baseless and fabricated content and misleading assumptions through social media sites and some media," the PM shared, appealing to all citizens not to be guided by such misleading content, not to support such forces, and to be ready to fulfill the historic responsibility before the nation.

Stating that the government will never promote impunity, PM Karki said it will never move back from taking action of any degree as per the law for any offense. 

"This festival of colour gives the message of unity, goodwill, and enthusiasm. It strengthens the diversities existing in our society. I wish that the fusion of the colour of the election and the colour of Holi brings new enthusiasm to the nation. But again, I urge one and all to celebrate Holi with patience and not to make anyone observe it forcefully."

Expressing her concerns over deepening unrest in the Middle East region, she said she was worried over the tension in Iran and its surroundings. As she said, the government is closely observing the latest developments there. "The security of Nepali brothers, sisters and youths who are presently in that region is our grave concern."

She said, "All Nepali missions in the region have been activated so that no stone is left unturned in facilitating security for Nepalis. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is monitoring the situation intensively. We are always by your side by all means available to us. The government is committed to ensuring the personal safety and security of every Nepali citizen, no matter where they are." (RSS)
