By TRN Online, Kathmandu, March 2: President Ramchandra Paudel has hoped that the special Nepali festival Phagu Purnima (Holi) will inspire greater harmony and goodwill in society.

In a message of best wishes issued on Monday on the occasion of Holi, President Paudel extended his heartfelt greetings and best wishes for happiness, peace, and prosperity to all Nepali brothers and sisters living in Nepal and abroad.

In the message, he said, “On the occasion of Holi, I express my best wishes that this festival inspires us to eliminate the various distortions, anomalies, and harmful practices present in society, while promoting the protection and development of our original culture and strengthening mutual harmony in society.

President Paudel noted that Holi is celebrated to mark the victory of truth over falsehood, justice over injustice, virtue over misconduct, and righteousness over unrighteousness. On this occasion, people traditionally set aside enmity and celebrate with love and warmth by applying abir (colored powder) and colors to relatives and friends, expressing goodwill and joy.

Celebrated as the festival of colors, Phagu Purnima (Holi) is observed every year across the country with great enthusiasm, reflecting the vibrant colors of the spring season. The celebration begins after the erection of a decorated ceremonial pole known as “Chir,” and concludes on the night of the full moon when the Chir is burned.

President Paudel also mentioned that just as Holi is celebrated with many colors, Nepali society is also diverse in terms of ethnicity, language, and culture. He emphasized that unity within this diversity is the identity and beauty of the Nepali people. (Translated from RSS Nepali)
