By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Feb. 29: Twenty players have been called up for a closed training camp ahead of the ICC World Cup League 2, which will be held in Nepal from March 10 to 20.
The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) selected the 20 players on the basis of their consistent performances for the national side and their displays in the ongoing Jay Trophy.
Nepal will take part in a triangular One Day International (ODI) series alongside the United Arab Emirates and Oman. It will be Nepal’s first home triangular series in two years.
Nepal are currently seventh in the eight-team ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 standings, with 12 points. They will open their campaign against Oman on the 26th.
Players called up for closed training:
Rohit Paudel (captain), Dipendra Singh Airee, Sandeep Lamichhane, Kushal Bhurtel, Arif Sheikh, Aasif Sheikh, Arjun Saud, Bhim Sharki, Bashir Ahmad, Gulshan Jha, Sompal Kami, Karan KC, Nandan Yadav, Rijan Dhakal, Lalit Rajbanshi, Shahab Alam, Sher Malla, Ishan Pandey, Akash Chand and Hemant Dhami.
Meanwhile, the dates for the T20 Koshi Pride League (KPL), organised by Koshi Pride Pvt Ltd, have been revised.
The league, which was previously scheduled to take place from February 21 to March 5, will now be held in Sunsari from March 22 to April 3. Organisers said the tournament was postponed due to elections to the House of Representatives.
The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has approved the new dates. Seven franchise teams will compete in the league, which will be conducted with technical support from the Koshi Province Cricket Association.
The participating teams have already signed 12 players through the auction. In addition, each team has recruited three to six players from the draft.
A total of 232 players entered the auction. There were 34 in Category ‘A’, 95 in Category ‘B’ and 103 in Category ‘C’. Of the 232 players, 84 were sold.
