Bhaktapur, Feb 6: Chairman of the Nepal Workers and Peasant Party (NWPP), Narayan Man Bijukchhe, has said journalists should fulfill their responsibility in favaour of country and people.
At a programme organized to observe the 16th anniversary of Rafat Sanchar Club in the district on Friday, Chairman Bijukchhe stressed, "Journalists must not be timid to speak and write for the country and people." He, however, said although journalists may have faith in any political party, the news they write must be fair and credible.
Chairman Bijukchhe recollected an inspiring moment he had spent with Editor Madan Mani Dixit while writing news stories on economic issues for the Samikshya Weekly. While reporting on political activities, he had to brave the police batons. It was a hostile time, but a moment to bring to light the issues surrounding socio-economic and political revolution, Bijukchhe added.
Those were the journalists who made aware the world on Russian revolution, explosion and impacts of nuclear bomb during the World War II, he remembered.
He further stressed journalists' honesty helps in reinforcing social unity.
On the occasion, Bagmati Province Minister for Health, Kiran Thapa, hailed the role journalists have played in identifying and resolving the problems of education and health sectors.
Executive Chairman of the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), Dharmendra Jha, said Rafat Sanchar Club had a vital role to disseminate the news on entire activities occurred in Bhaktapur district. "Journalist can play a bridging role with fair journalism as we are on the verge of election, where right information counts much," Jha underlined.
Chief District Officer Umesh Kumar Dhakal urged journalists to continue writing for people's empowerment.
RSS photojournalist Shrestha honoured
Three journalists, including RSS photojournalist Ratna Shrestha, were awarded at the programme.
NWPP Chairman Bijukchhe conferred them cash prize of Rs 5,000 to each and offered shawls as well. (RSS)
