Friendship between Nepal and Japan is historical and multidimensional: President Paudel

Kathmandu, Feb 2: President Ramchandra Paudel has said that the friendship between Nepal and Japan is historical, based on trust and multidimensional.     

During his visit to the Nepali Embassy in Tokyo, Japan earlier today, President Paudel called for adoption of more active diplomacy to expand bilateral cooperation in the fields of politics, economy, education, technology and human resource development.     

“Special attention should be paid to increasing continuous dialogue and cooperation with government agencies, private sector and educational institutions here,” he said. The President emphasized that since Nepali missions abroad are extended organs of the Government of Nepal, simplicity, transparency and timeliness should be mandatory in their service delivery, according to the President's Press Advisor Kiran Pokharel.     

“The role of the embassy in attracting foreign investment into the country is very important. I urge the embassy to conduct effective economic diplomacy by effectively presenting the possibilities of tourism, hydropower, information technology, agriculture and infrastructure development to Japanese investors,” said President Paudel.     

Stating that protecting the rights, security and dignity of workers and students in the host country is the primary responsibility of the embassy, he stressed on further strengthening the mechanism to listen to their grievances, concerns and needs with sensitivity and resolve them in a timely manner. “Priority should be given to programs that further strengthen people-to-people ties through the promotion of Nepali language, art, culture and traditions,” he said.     

On the occasion, Charge d'affaires at the Nepali Embassy, Harihar Kant Poudel shared about the functioning of the embassy, the services provided, the problems faced, and the role it has played in expanding relations between the two countries.     

Earlier today, President Paudel addressed a program with members of the Japanese business community, while Japanese Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Horii Iwao paid a courtesy call on the President.     

At the invitation of the government of Japan, President Paudel left here this morning for an official visit to Japan. The President is accompanied by his spouse Sabita Paudel, high level government officials and the officials at the President's office. He is scheduled to return home on February 4.     

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has shared that the Head of the State was visiting Japan by leading a Nepali delegation at the invitation of Japanese government on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Nepal-Japan diplomatic relations. During the visit, President Paudel will address a program organized to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Japan. He is also scheduled to pay a courtesy call on the Emperor and have a meeting with the Prime Minister of Japan during his stay. (RSS)
