Weather system causing rain to become active again

blog

Kathmandu, Feb 1: The westerly low-pressure system, also known as a weather system causing rainfall, is set to be active and strong once again, bringing changes in weather conditions across the country.

The system, which caused cloudy skies along with rainfall and snowfall last Tuesday and Wednesday in provinces other than Koshi and Madhesh, is expected to become further active.

A minor impact of the system has already been observed in parts of Sudurpaschim Province since Sunday, said Sanjeev Adhikari, meteorologist at the Division of Hydrology and Meteorology.

Adhikari informed that the system is likely to intensify on Monday, affecting the mountainous and hilly areas in the western belt of the country. According to him, the system's influence will be extended to central part of the country by Tuesday. These areas are likely to be generally cloudy while the remaining areas partially cloudy, causing a drop in temperature.

He explained that although the system is weaker than the one that affected the country last week, it is still expected to cause moderate rainfall and snowfall, particularly in the western part. "The impact of the system will be greater in western part of the country than the central," he forecasted, adding that various parts of the Karnali and Sudurpaschim Provinces remained cloudy on Sunday.

The weather service officer predicted that the cloudiness would further intensify to cause rainfall and snowfall coming Tuesday. The system is expected to affect western and central part of the country, causing snowfall in highland and mountainous areas and light to moderate rain in other parts.(RSS)
