By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Jan. 27: Nepali businesspersons participated in the Caravan, Motor and Tourism Fair (CMT) held from January 17 to 25, in Stuttgart, Germany, with the objective of promoting Nepal as an attractive tourism destination in the European market.

The team was led by Santosh Chandra Kunwar, President of the Nepal-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NGCCI).

He was accompanied by prominent tourism entrepreneurs Sher Bahadur Pariyar of Nepal Reisen Treks and Expedition and Namgyal Sherpa of Sherpa Reisen GmbH, Germany.

All participating entrepreneurs have more than three decades of experience in the travel and tourism sector, particularly in the German and European markets. The participation aimed to strengthen Nepal’s tourism promotion in Germany through joint coordination with NGCCI, as the participating companies have long been members of the bilateral chamber, according to a press statement of NGCCI.

Their presence at the fair focused on showcasing Nepal’s tourism products, adventure destinations, cultural heritage, and sustainable travel opportunities to a global audience. This year, the CMT Fair was held from January 17 to January 25, 2026, attracting an impressive 266,000 visitors.

A total of 1,600 exhibitors showcased their products and services, with participation from numerous countries across the world. Angola was featured as the official partner country for the 2026 edition of the fair.

The Caravan, Motor and Touristic (CMT) fair was first held in 1968.

Initially launched as a motor sport and leisure exhibition, it gradually evolved into one of the world’s largest public trade fairs for tourism, caravanning, and leisure activities, gaining international recognition over the decades.

Speaking at the meeting event, Kunwar said that NGCCI has been participating in the CMT Fair for the past 30 years, and the experience has been extremely beneficial for Nepal’s tourism-related businesses.

He emphasised that the fair has played a crucial role in helping Nepali entrepreneurs promote, sustain, and expand their businesses in the European market.

During his visit, Kunwar also held discussions with the CMT management regarding the possibility of positioning Nepal as a partner country at a future CMT Fair. He noted that such an initiative would require close collaboration between the Government of Nepal and private sector stakeholders, showcasing Nepal’s products and services to attract tourism and investment in the tourism sector.

Similarly, Namgyal Sherpa, who has been engaged in the tourism business with Germany for many years, said that the potential for cooperation between German and Nepali tourism businesses is immense.

However, he stressed the need to make Nepal’s offerings more attractive and tailored to the interests of European travelers, supported by better promotion and institutional backing.

The participation of Nepali businesspersons at CMT once again highlighted Nepal’s commitment to strengthening its presence in the global tourism market and deepening bilateral cooperation between Nepal and Germany in the tourism and travel sector.
