blog

Kathmandu, Jan 20: Officiating Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari has said that nomination of the candidates for the election to the House of Representatives (HoR) was completed in a peaceful manner in all 165 constituencies across the country on Tuesday.

This has created a conducive environment to institutionalize voters' sovereign right to voting, he stated. Nomination of candidates across the country was completed today after starting at 10:00 in the morning.

Organizing a news conference today, Officiating Chief Election Commissioner Bhandari expressed confidence that the people's representatives to be elected from March 5 election would work for good governance in the country.

He stated that the candidates could visit voters' doorsteps after releasing the final names of the candidates and getting the election symbols on January 23. However, massive rallies and publicity programmes would be allowed only after February 16.

Likewise, Bhandari shared that the elections would be conducted in a peaceful manner by mobilizing the security forces in a coordinated fashion.

Similarly, elections in some local levels and province assemblies, where posts have remained vacant after the resignation of province assembly members and local levels' chiefs and deputies, would be conducted within six months by holding consultations with the government, Bhandari vowed.

On the occasion, he cautioned the candidates and political parties to abide by the election code of conduct.(RSS)
