Kathmandu, Jan 18: Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav has said that the role of the private sector in the development country's energy sector was crucial.
At a programme organized here today on the occasion of the 26th anniversary of the Independent Power Producers' Association, Nepal (IPPAN), the Vice President viewed that the role of the independent power producers was praiseworthy to ensure the country's self-dependency on power. This has contributed to the national development and economic growth, Vice President Yadav added.
On the occasion, Yadav stated that we need should reduce our power dependency on imports by fully utilizing the national resources for hydropower development and renewable energy.
He argued that the country's development was not possible without enough development of the energy sector and added that inexpensive and sufficient energy could contribute to the development of industry, agriculture, tourism and information technology sectors.
Vice President Yadav added that the development of renewable energy would reduce carbon emissions, enabling the country to reduce the climate change impacts.
Also speaking at the event, Minister for Energy Anil Kumar Sinha shared that the proactive role of the private sector helped the nation move towards ending load shedding.
Minister Sinha said that the total power production at present has reached some 4,000 megawatts and more than 3,000 megawatts of electricity was produced through the contribution of the private sector. (RSS)
