Vice President's Maghe Sankranti best wishes - call for protection of biological resources

Kathmandu, Jan 15: Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav has emphasized the conservation and sustainable use of biological resources.

Extending best wishes on the occasion of Maghi Festival (Maghe Sankranti), 2082 BS today, he emphasized that all citizens and stakeholders should be conscious about the conservation and sustainable use of resources. 

"In Nepal, the day of the Maghi festival is also celebrated as National Agricultural Biodiversity Day. All three tiers of government have been given the responsibility of conservation, and since Nepal is a party to international treaties, the importance of biodiversity conservation has further increased. In this context, it is essential for the general public and all concerned individuals to be aware and focus on conservation and sustainable use of biological resources," Vice President Yadav stated in the message.

He also stated that the constitution has incorporated the conservation and sustainable use of biological resources into the state's policy.

Referring to the cultural festival of Maghe Sankranti, the Vice President said that the common message of various festivals celebrated under different names being to strengthen nationalism, brotherhood, harmony, friendship, and a sense of belonging, and also expressed the belief that it inspires moving forward on the path of the people's rights, self-governance, and prosperity while preserving Nepal's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, national unity, and self-respect.
