Narayangadh (Chitwan), Jan 13: The Bharatpur Ring Road (National Highway–NH 77), the country’s longest ring road at the municipal level, was inaugurated today. The highway connects several wards of Bharatpur Metropolitan City in Chitwan.

Bharatpur Mayor Renu Dahal and Deputy Mayor Chitrasen Adhikari inaugurated the project amid a special programme held at the zero-kilometre point in Gondrang, Bharatpur–9.

Construction of the 88.6-kilometre Ring Road began seven years ago as a pride project of the local government. While most sections of the highway have already been completed, blacktopping and alignment adjustments are awaited in some areas.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Mayor Dahal said the project reflects the significant development achieved by Bharatpur since the establishment of the local government, adding that it was implemented as a flagship initiative. She added that funding for the project was jointly managed by the federal, provincial and local governments, with total investment exceeding Rs 1.50 billion.

According to the Mayor, the decision to maintain a 30-metre road standard was implemented practically based on recommendations received from the ward level. She also pledged to further upgrade the ring road in the future. (RSS)
