President’s Running Shield–2082 sports competition commenced on Monday in
Aandhikhola Rural Municipality of Syangja.
Speaking at the programme held at the Shimle
playground of Ward No. 6, Sudhir Kumar Paudel, Chair of the Gandaki Province
Public Accounts Committee, said large countries gain recognition through
weapons, while small countries gain recognition through sports.
He said state investment in sports would bring
positive outcomes and expressed confidence that the tournament would produce
capable players.
Rural Municipality Chair Bishwanath Paudel,
Vice-Chair Sita Thapa, and Dipti Narayan Paudel, principal of Pradyumna Paneru
Secondary School, among others, addressed the programme. The competition
includes volleyball, kabaddi, long jump, high jump, triple jump, athletics, and
other sports.
The competition will continue until January 14,
featuring contests for 30 gold, 30 silver, and 30 bronze medals. The rural
municipality said 19 schools have joined the event, with around 900 students
taking part.
