Kathmandu, Jan 10: The Nepali Congress today endorsed a condolence motion on the demise of party leader and former Minister Homnath Dahal.
An emergency meeting of the party held at its central office Sanepa in Lalitpur today passed the proposal, expressing deep sorrow over the passing of Dahal, also the Chair of the Federation of Nepali Journalist (FNJ).
NC Officiating President Purna Bahadur Khadka presided over the meeting.
The meeting attended by the party's central executive committee said that it lost an experienced and senior leader with the passing of Dahal.
Dahal, a senior journalist, was the editor and publisher of the Rastrapukar Weekly and had also served as the Chair of Gorkhapatra Sanasthan in the past.
He had spent frequent jail sentences due to his involvement in the democratic movement in the country. He had been elected to the House of Representatives through the 2056 BS general election, representing the Okhaldhunga constituency-1 and had assumed the office of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.
The party has said that Dahal had played a significant role in the NC organizational development and the advancement of the Nepal's democratic movement.
The meeting has extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and relatives, wishing for eternal peace to the departed soul.
By mourning the demise of Dahal, the party has decided to lower the party flag at half-mast at its central, province and districts offices for three days, beginning today, close all its offices from the center to districts tomorrow (January 11), place a condolence book until the 13th day of his death and hold a condolence assembly in Okhaldhunga on the 13th day of his demise.
Dahal passed away last night. He was 84. (RSS)
