MEXICO CITY, Jan. 2 (Xinhua): Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said here Friday that the death toll rose to 14 after the derailment of a train in the southeastern state of Oaxaca on Dec. 28, 2025.
The Mexican president lamented during her usual daily press conference the death of a 73-year-old woman, who died from serious injuries on Thursday.
The train, carrying approximately 250 passengers, plunged into a ravine some 7 meters deep from a bridge at the exit of Nizanda while en route to the municipality of Matias Romero.
Sheinbaum said the federal government is considering how to recover the train, since it is difficult to put a crane in place.
The president also reiterated that the attorney general's office will be in charge of the investigation into the causes of the accident.
