Bull fighting draws huge crowd in Sundarbazaar

By Nabin Raj Kuikel,Lamjung, jan,1: The third open bullfighting competition concluded at Ahale Chaur, Sundarbazaar Municipality-2, Lamjung. The event, organised by the local Sundarbazaar Devbhumi Youth Club, featured bulls from 21 farmers.

Raju Dura’s bull from Sundarbazaar Municipality-11 claimed the first place in a highly competitive and exciting contest.

The bull owned by Prakash Pant of Sundarbazaar Municipality-2 secured the second place, while Shyam KC’s bull from Jitaka, Madhya Nepal Municipality-1, and took third, according to Ramesh Raj Bhandari, coordinator of the judging committee.

Four bulls each from Rainas Municipality of Lamjung and Bhanu Municipality of Tanahun participated in the competition. One bull each represented Madhya Nepal Municipality and Besishahar Municipality, while the remaining 11 bulls came from various wards of Sundarbazaar Municipality.

Nabin Kumar Shrestha, Ward Chairman of Sundarbazar Municipality-2, said that since bullfighting is a tradition of Parewadanda, the competition will continue annually. He urged people to embrace the event as a festival, despite differing opinions about it.

The organising club has hosted bullfighting at Ahale Chaur for the past two years. Attendance has grown steadily, and this year’s competition was also held in a grand manner.

Bull farmers and spectators expressed that the event successfully revived the culture of Parewadanda and boosted the enthusiasm of cattle farmers. A large number of people from Sundarbazaar and surrounding municipalities and districts gathered to watch the bullfight.

Mahesh Pariyar, President of the Club, announced that the owners of the winning bulls received cash prizes of Rs. 20,000, Rs. 15,000, and Rs. 10,000 respectively.
