Kathmandu, Dec 28: The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has urged people to observe precaution while warming up themselves by fire and using heaters or geysers in the winter season.

Issuing a press statement here Sunday, Dr Prakash Budhathoki, Spokesperson at the Ministry, cautioned that serious incidents could occur if proper precaution is not exercised while lightening the fire to warm up or operating heaters or geysers in the winter.

Spokesperson Budhathoki appealed to everyone to adopt precaution while making fire or using heating appliances. He also advised avoiding using fires from coal-based sources as much as possible for heating and ensuring that the rooms are properly ventilated while warming with fire or using heating devices such as heater in the room.

"Keep away the inflammable materials such as papers, clothes, kerosene from fireplace and heather and extinguish the fire completely after the use," he suggested. Furthermore, to avoid untoward incidents, the Spokesperson requested everyone to turn off the heater time to time while using it and turn it off completely after use.

He also recommended installing the main machine of the geyser outside the bathroom, preferably in an open area, and urged people to avoid staying in the bathroom for an extended period with the geyser on.(RSS)
