Lumbini, Dec 28: Chief Minister of Lumbini Chet Narayan Acharya has said that the contribution of the journalism sector is important to further strengthen the relations between Nepal and India.
“Strengthening journalism in the Mofussil, protecting press freedom and creating meaningful debate on local issues is the need of the day,” he said while inaugurating the third Lumbini News Festival organized by the Lumbini Press Club here today. He also expressed his belief that the festival would help make the role of journalism more effective.
Stating that cooperation between journalists, private sector, social and cultural sectors is necessary for the development and prosperity of both countries, he said negative news from the media can weaken the relationship. Positive and fact-based news will strengthen mutual relations.
Chief Minister Acharya said that there is potential for tourism in Nepal, with religious tourist destinations like Lumbini, Muktinath and Swargadwari becoming a medium for economic prosperity of the country.
Working journalists from Nepal and India are participating in the festival being held under the chairmanship of Lumbini Press Club President Kamal Rayamajhi.(RSS)
