19th AGM of Gorkhapatra employee cooperatives held

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Dec 27: The 19th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Gorkhapatra Employee Multipurpose Cooperatives has concluded today.

As the chief guest of the inaugural ceremony, general manager of the Gorkhapatra Corporation, Lal Bahadur Airi, inaugurated the AGM ceremony.

In his best wishes message, GM Airi viewed that the Gorkhapatra had contributed a lot in maintaining unity among the employees in addition to being a helping hand in times of financial needs to the shareholders. “It has maintained the objectives of the cooperatives which is to create unity by ensuring welfare and cooperation among the shareholders.


He also noted over seven decades history of cooperatives in Nepal and said that it has become a basic pillar of the nation’s economy.

Speaking on the occasion, former chairman of the cooperatives and acting editor-in-chief of the Gorkhapatra daily, Junarbabu Basnet, said that the cooperatives has been a pivot for employees to come together and maintain unity by creating platform for cooperation. He pointed at the need to focus on income generation.


Held under the presidency of the cooperatives chairperson Pushpa Raj Joshi, vice-chairperson and editor of The Rising Nepal online edition, Nanda Lal Tiwari, welcomed the guests and shareholders in the AGM.


Seven students felicitated

Seven students who secured excellent marks in the SEE 2081 from among the children of the shareholders of the cooperatives were felicitated in the AGM. Isha Baral (3.96GPA), Kritisma Sapkota (3.91 GPA), Pratik Ghimire (3.87GPA), Smriddha Neupane (3.86GPA), Prapti Paudel (3.86GPA), Bidushi Khanal (3.86 GPA) and Sadikshya Sapkota (3.54GPA) were awarded in the event. The first, second and third among these students were also provided a sum of Rs. 3500, 3000 and 2500 in cash along with the honour letter, according to Pushpa Raj Joshi, Chairperson of the cooperatives.


In her financial report, Treasurer of the cooperatives, Maya Acharya, stated that the cooperatives earned a sum of Rs. 284 thousand as profit in FY 2081/82. Total liability of the cooperatives has been Rs. 19.4 million while its asset was Rs. 21.5 million. In the last FY, the cooperatives got Rs. 19.3 million as saving while it mobilized Rs. 15.7 million as credit to shareholders. It has Rs. 4.6 million as liquidity in the bank.

The cooperatives provides Rs. 290 thousand as loan to a shareholder member. There are 350 shareholder members in it.
