Social Security National Campaign launched

Kathmandu, Dec 24: A Social Security National Campaign targeting informal sector and self-employed workers has been launched today.     

The campaign was inaugurated during a programme organized by the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, the Social Security Fund (SSF), and the International Labour Organisation (ILO).     

Local government representatives, relevant stakeholders, and members of the media also attended the event.     

Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Rajendra Singh Bhandari released a video message about the campaign, stating that the government is committed to ensuring workers’ social security by removing all policy barriers to its implementation.     

Secretary of the Ministry, Krishnahari Puskar, emphasized that implementing social security is an effective way to demonstrate the State’s presence to citizens.     

SSF Executive Director Kabiraj Adhikari stated that since its inception in 2075 BS, 2.65 million people have enrolled in the SSF. However, only eight local levels have implemented the programme so far, despite agreement from over 114 local levels.     

ILO Country Director Numan Ozcan highlighted that including workers in social security schemes is crucial for securing their own future and that of their dependents.(RSS)
