Seminar on Tourism Management concludes highlighting on dialogue on culture of tourism

Kathmandu, Dec 11: A 10-day-long seminar on tourism management was concluded here today. 

Jointly organized by Ningbo Polytechnic University China and the Nepal-China Friendship Forum, the seminar was wrapped up in Kathmandu by distributing certificates to the participants and reviewing the major takeaways.

On the occasion, Dean of the School of International Business and Travel at Ningbo Polytechnic University, Prof Dong Hong’an, said the richness and diversity of this seminar has produced remarkable results. 

Prof Dong said that this event has integrated the intertwined dialogue of culture and tourism, leaving precious footprints and unforgettable memories of our joint exploration and perception. 

He hoped that the participants will apply what they have learned, whether it is cutting-edge tourism concepts, practical management methods, or a deep understanding of Chinese culture and the development model of Chinese tourism. 

“I hope everyone can become a bridge and messenger of friendly cooperation with each other, and contribute new strength to the promotion of mutual benefit and win-win results and the sustainable development and economic and social progress of Nepal's tourism industry,” Prof Dong added.

This training has brought together experts from China and dedicated professionals from Nepal's tourism sector to engage in an intensive program of learning, exchange and capacity building. 

Pragya Sharma, the Managing Director of Outdoor Adventure Company, a key travel agency in Kathmandu, stated that we must be skilled, innovative, organized, competitive and internationally aware to compete in today’s global tourism market adding that this training programme was designed exactly for that purpose. 

“It gives our tourism professionals access to global expertise,” Sharma said. 

She appreciated the academic partnership between the Ningbo Polytechnic University China and the Nepal-China Friendship Forum and hoped for continued collaboration in the future. 

She stated that what matters most is how the participants apply this learning in their work, their organizations, their communities and their future careers adding that the participants carry new knowledge and new skills and urged the participants to help strengthen Nepal’s tourism standards. 

Also speaking at the event, Managing Director of Adrift Adventure and tourism campaigner, Shiva Adhikari, said that the knowledge gained during the training would advance Nepal’s adventure tourism, river-based tourism adding that this event has fostered a strong spirit of coordination and cooperation among tourism fraternity. 

The sessions at the seminar were facilitated by esteemed Chinese professors covering sustainable tourism, homestay development, quality and service management, technology application and cultural collaboration, adding to new values for tourism growth. 

Participants shared that the seminar was fruitful for collaboration, knowledge sharing and exploring institutional partnership to grow together in the tourism sector. 

During the 10-day event, the participants not only attended the lectures and seminars, but also made trips to different parts of the Kathmandu Valley to gain real experience in quality tourism products. 

Throughout this programme, participants have had the unique opportunity to explore international best practices in tourism management and gain insights into emerging trends in the tourism industry. The seminar covered key topics such as new trends in Chinese tourist demand and expectations, application of new media and digital tools in tourism marketing, innovative design and development of cultural tourism, the policy systems and practices of integrated development of culture and tourism and others. 

The 30 participants included the officials from the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), CEOs and top-level leaders from the tourism industry. (RSS)
