By Amar Raj Karki, Tanahun, Nov 20: Agriculture Development Office, Tanahun has conducted “Common Potato Production Promotion Programme” with an objective to make farmers self-reliant by increasing potato production.
Chief of the Agriculture Development Office Gopal Sharma Lamichanne informed that the campaign started with the distribution of high quality seed, agriculture tools and irrigation equipment.
It has informed that the potato farming has been given priority as cash crop production is comparatively lower in Tanahun.
Lamichanne said that potato production is given priority as people eat potato daily on basis and market is accessible for locals which could help the famers of the district to become self-reliant in potato production.
According to him the center has been continuously helping the farmers by availing high quality seed and marketing of the produced potato.
A total sum of Rs. 48.10 thousand has been allocated for the programme.
The economist of the center Suraj Gaire said that there is a provision of 50 to 85 per cent financial aid identifying farmer, group of productive sector of potato and cooperative.
The center has informed that free of cost chemical, transportation, training and technical service are being provided to the group and cooperative involved in potato production.
The center informed that the potato farming was spread to 1872 hectare area of land and production totaled 32,310 metric ton last year.
