Flights at TIA affected due to problems with lighting system

blog

Kathmandu, Nov 8: Take off and landings have been affected at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) due to a problem in the 'airfield lighting' system on the runway.

TIA Director and Spokesperson Renji Sherpa said that due to a lighting system problem from 5:30 this evening, some aircraft are on 'hold' in the sky while some aircraft from other destinations have been diverted elsewhere.

He stated that domestic flights were stopped at the airport and some international flights have been on hold in the sky.

Spokesperson Sherpa said that the planes on domestic flight coming to Kathmandu have been stopped at the respective destinations.

The lights that illuminate the airport runway for aircraft takeoff and landing at night are called 'airfield lighting'. He informed that efforts are being made to resolve the issue observed with the lighting, so regular flights will resume soon.(RSS)
