Kathmandu, Nov 8: Nepali Congress (NC) leader and former Minister Mohammad Aftab Alam has passed away at 2.00 am this morning.
Afflicted from high blood pressure and diabetes, he has been undergoing treatment at Sinamangal-based Kathmandu Medical College (KMC) for the last one month.
Alam was put on ventilator support for over one week after further complications in his health.
KMC's chairperson and former lawmaker Dr Sunil Sharma informed RSS that ex-Minister Alam breathed his last while undergoing treatment today.
Alam was first elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) in the by-election in 2051 BS. He had discharged the responsibilities of Constituent Assembly member, state minister, full minster and NC central member during his political career.
He had been in prison after being sentenced to life imprisonment for allegedly orchestrating the brick kiln massacre in Rautahat district just before the Constituent Assembly elections in 2064 BS.
He had suffered a brain stroke after being released from jail with the verdict of the Rautahat District Court.
Former Minister Alam is survived by two sons and a daughter. (RSS)
