14th EU Film Festival Nepal to start on Nov 14

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Nov 7: The 14th European Union Film Festival Nepal returns this November, bringing together acclaimed European filmmakers and emerging Nepali voices in a celebration of cinema without borders.

This year’s edition features 25 films, including 10 European features, 6 BAFTA-nominated shorts, and 9 Nepali short films, exploring themes of identity, belonging, resistance, and transformation, the selection reflects a shared cinematic language of courage, memory, and hope, according to a press release issued today by the Delegation of the EU to Nepal

The films will be showcased in Kathmandu at QFX Chhaya Center on 14-16 November while in Pokhara they will be presented on November 21-23 at QFX Trade Mall.

The European lineup includes Banzo (Portugal), Je’vida (Finland), Happy (Austria), Without Air (Hungary), and The Girl from Tomorrow (France/Italy), along with a BAFTA Shorts Showcase from the UK featuring Wander to Wonder, Rock, Paper, Scissors, Mog’s Christmas, Milk, and Adios. Complementing these are Nepali short films curated in collaboration with local filmmakers and film schools, including What Grows in Thari Maila’s Vegetable Garden?, Chandani, Abyss, and Eternal Kinship. Together, they create a cinematic dialogue that transcends borders and celebrates the shared human experience.

EUFF Nepal 2025 is organised by the EU Delegation to Nepal, in collaboration with embassies and cultural institutions representing EU Member States in Kathmandu and Delhi, including those of France, Germany, and Finland, as well as the British Council and UNESCO. All screenings are free, and the films will be shown with English subtitles.

In the lead-up to the festival, several parallel programmes strengthen the connection between art, industry, and learning:

Navigating Festivals, Funding and Co-Production Markets (9–12 November) introduces a four-day capacity-building workshop for 10 Nepali filmmakers to develop skills in pitching, packaging, and accessing international platforms.

What Next for the Film Industry? In collaboration with the British Council and UNESCO presents a panel and roundtable featuring filmmakers, policymakers, and industry stakeholders discussing the UNESCO baseline study and strategies for a sustainable film ecosystem.

Reflections from the UK Film Study Tour (15 November, QFX Chhaya) features a conversation with Nepali participants of the UK Film Study Tour, reflecting on their international experiences and the path toward a more globally connected film sector.
