By Gyanu Pangeni,Bardaghat, Madhyabindu, Nov. 6: Local representatives of Nawalpur have lodged a formal written complaint demanding action against those involved in arson, vandalism, and looting during the Gen-Z Movement protests that took place on September 8 and 9.
A team of representatives, led by Madhyabindu Municipality Mayor Bhimlal Adhikari, submitted the complaint to District Police Chief and Superintendent of Police (SP) Yubraj Khadka at the District Police Office on Wednesday.
The delegation included Laxmi Pandey, Chairperson of Hupsekot Rural Municipality; Purnasingh Rana, Vice-chairperson; Purnakala Chaudhary, Deputy Mayor of Madhyabindu; along with ward chairs, members, and social leaders. Mayor Adhikari said that during the protests, anarchic groups, unruly individuals, and politically motivated elements carried out acts of arson, vandalism, and looting targeting government offices and private properties.
He stressed that such acts could not be defined as a movement but as a violence, and urged that all those involved be brought under the purview of law without delay.
Adhikari further remarked that the inhumane and criminal acts during the protests had demoralised not only local representatives but also the police and administration.
He warned that if the authorities remained passive and failed to take action against those involved, local governments would be unable to deliver services effectively, and the police would struggle to maintain security. Therefore, he requested that a thorough investigation be conducted and that those found guilty be punished in accordance with the law.
After receiving the complaint, Police Chief Khadka assured that no individual involved in criminal activity would escape justice, stating that legal action would be taken as per the laws. He confirmed that investigations had begun to identify and prosecute those directly involved.
The identities and addresses of the individuals named in the complaint have been kept confidential to prevent interference in the ongoing investigation, Police Chief Khadka said.
Mayor Adhikari added that the complaint was supported by photographic and video evidence, as well as social media posts documenting incidents of arson, looting, and vandalism. He clarified that the complaint demanded legal action not only against those directly involved but also against those who incited, assisted or encouraged the
criminal activities.
