Kathmandu, Oct. 28: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) has issued a special bulletin warning of possible rainfall and snowfall on Tuesday and Wednesday.

It said the country is receiving the rainfall due to the combined influence of the western wind and a low-pressure system formed over the Arabian Sea. According to meteorologist David Dhakal from the MFD, the effect of this weather system will continue from Monday night to Wednesday morning.

According to him, there is a likelihood of light to moderate rainfall, particularly in some areas of Gandaki, Lumbini, and Karnali Provinces, while light rain may also occur in parts of the hilly and mountainous regions of other provinces.

Similarly, light to moderate snowfall is expected in some places of the high-hilly and Himalayan regions, Dhakal said. The MFD has also warned of the possibility of heavy snowfall at one or two locations in the high-hilly and Himalayan areas of Gandaki Province.

Even though moderate rainfall has been forecast, it may affect the farmers who are prepared to harvest paddy. He has advised farmers to postpone harvesting for another two days. For those who have already harvested, he recommended collecting the paddy as soon as possible.

The MFD has requested the general public and all relevant stakeholders to exercise necessary caution as the potential snowfall and rain could affect daily life, mountaineering, agriculture and tourism sectors.

The Division said that it is continuously monitoring the weather system and has urged the public to stay updated on the latest information.
