No one involved in destruction during Gen Z protest will be spared: IGP Khapung

Nawalpur, Oct. 20: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chandra Kuber Khapung has said that leaders themselves should conduct greater self-reflection on why the Gen Z Movement led to arson and vandalism at Singha Durbar, the Parliament building, and the residences of political leaders. 

IGP Khapung made this remark while inaugurating a petrol station in Kawasoti, Nawalpur, constructed with funds from the Police Welfare Fund.

He said that the Movement arose because the public demand for a corruption-free society, accessible and efficient services, and economic reform was not being met. He emphasised that both political leaders and police must learn lessons from why they became targets of the movement.

The IGP also expressed a firm commitment that anyone infiltrating the Movement and causing destruction would be brought to justice. He clarified that investigations are underway into criminal cases unrelated to political matters, and no one responsible for acts of vandalism will be spared.

Khapung inaugurated a model petrol station built in Kawasoti under the Police Welfare Fund. The station, which cost Rs. 109.8 million, was funded through monthly contributions from police personnel and those deployed on peacekeeping missions.

The petrol station is spread over two ropanis and three dhurs, includes a charging station, refreshment centre, ATM machine, token counter, and a workshop, according to Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjay Singh Thapa of Gandaki Province. 

Including two stations in the Kathmandu Valley, the Police Welfare Fund operates nine petrol stations nationwide. 

SSP Thapa said that the stations ensure the uninterrupted supply of petroleum products even during shortages and remain operational 24 hours a day.
