Kathmandu, Oct 18: The District Administration Office Kathmandu has prohibited holding protest demonstrations, sit-ins, and processions at various locations for the next two months.
An order issued by Chief District Officer Ishwar Raj Paudel on Friday stated that no more than five people can assemble, citing unruly and undesirable activities such as vandalism and arson may occur due to an agitated crowd, and there may be clashes, confrontations, mob violence or unrest while organising such protest programmes.
According to sub-section 3 'ka' of section 6 of the Local Administration Act, 2028, gatherings of more than five people for protests such as hunger strikes, sit-ins, picketing, rallies, demonstrations, and assembly are prohibited for two months from Friday in sensitive areas including the President's Office, Shital Niwas.
Protest rallies, demonstrations, sit-ins and such activities have been prohibited up to the crossroad in front of the National Police Academy, up to 100 metres south from the turning leading to Samakhusi and from the turning towards Samakhusi up to the Samakhusi stream towards the south-west.
Similarly, rallies, demonstrations, sit-ins and such activities have been banned around the Green House (the Office of the Vice President), Lainchaur area from the Keshar Mahal Chowk to the Malla Hotel via Lainchaur turning and the area around Narayanhiti Palace Museum.
Similarly, the areas from Kesharmahal Chowk to Narayanhiti Palace Museum South Gate via Jaya Nepal turning, and up to Mahendra Statue are also off limits for demonstrations, rallies and protests.
The other prohibited areas include the area from the eastern corner of the triangular island to the east of Bhadrakali Temple eastward up to the Singha Durbar Main Gate, from the Singha Durbar Main Gate northwards up to the Padmodaya turning, from the Padmodaya turning eastwards up to the north-eastern turning of Singha Durbar via in front of the Office of the Auditor General towards Anamnagar, and from the north-eastern turning of Singha Durbar up to the Hanuman Temple via the Singha Durbar eastern gate, from the Singha Durbar main gate up to the crossroad of the Department of Archives via the Supreme Court towards the south, and from the Department of Archives crossroad up to the Hanumansthan Temple via the southern gate of Singha Durbar.
Likewise, areas from the entrance road on the eastern turning of the District Court up to the turning towards the north of the District Administration Office, the areas around the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar, the residence of the National Assembly Chairman, the residence of the Chief Justice and the areas 100 meters up the road going eastwards from the Rastra Bank crossroad have also been declared prohibited areas.(RSS)
