By Nagendra Kumar Karna,Mahottari, Oct. 18: Relief materials have been distributed to flood victims of Ekdara and Samsi rural municipalities of Mahottari district. Relief has been distributed to 308 flood-affected families of the two rural municipalities.

The relief was distributed with the support of World Vision International Nepal and the coordination of Unified Rural Development Society Bardibas and Dalit Utthan Samaj Mahottari.

Relief has been distributed to 255 households in Ekdara Rural Municipality and 53 households in Samsi Rural Municipality, according to Rajiv Kumar Jha, field officer of Rural Development Society Bardibas.

It is stated that the employees of the organisation have verified the flood victims recommended by the ward offices and only the genuine flood victims were distributed relief. Each family received 25 kg of Sona Mansuli rice, two kg of pulses, two litres of cooking oil, one packet of cooking salt, two tarpaulins, two mattresses, two blankets, two ropes, solar lights and other items.

Speaking at the relief distribution programme, Ekdara Rural Municipality Chairman Narayan Mandal thanked the organisation for distributing relief to the residents of the rural municipality who were suffering due to floods and inundation. He also promised all possible assistance from the municipality to the flood and inundation victims.

Shivaji Mandal, a flood victim of Ajmarpatti, Ekdara Rural Municipality-3, expressed happiness that relief was provided on the eve of Tihar, saying that no one had come to provide relief even 10  days after the flood hit their settlements. 

Due to continuous rain for three days from October 4 to 6, various places in Mahottari district had witnessed flooding and inundation. Jaleshwor Municipality had to declare a holiday due to water stagnation in the district headquarters Jaleshwor for seven days.

The rivers  like Rato, Bhavsi, Jangaha, Madha, Ankusi, Bighi and others in the district were in full flow, causing flooding and inundation in the district.

A few days ago, Save the Children distributed relief to the 112 families affected by the flood in to the Rato River of Jaleshwor Municipality 1 and 8.

In the district, a total of 826 people from 228 families in Bardibas, Aurahi, Bhangaha Sitapur, Balwa, Mahottari, Ramgopalpur, Matihani and Samasi, including Jaleshwor Municipality were displaced due to floods and inundation.
