Deukhuri (Dang), Oct 10: Women here have been involving in collective farming in recent period.
Janachetana Women Agriculture Group at Katuki, Ghorahi sub-metropolitan city-8, has been making good income through collective farming.
Basanti Chaudhary of Katuki has been affiliated in the group since two years and now she is treasurer of the group.
She shared that the group comprising 20 members has been involved in collective farming taking 25 kaththas of land of the same ward on lease.
"We had cultivated potatoes and onions and the potato production was good. We have also cultivated vegetables in two tunnels," she mentioned.
The Agriculture Knowledge Centre has supported budget for the targeted group. The office provided seed capital of Rs 20,000 each to 20 women.
Group Chairperson Deu Kumari Chaudhary said that they have been practising collective farming on her own land as well as on rented land.
She added that she herself keeps the products produced on her own land and the income made from collective farming is shared among the group members.
The group earned Rs 60,000 after selling paddy, Rs 20,000 from potato, Rs 12,150 from broccoli, Rs 8,300 from vegetable seedlings, Rs 4,500 from cauliflower, Rs 3,000 from onion seedlings and Rs 12,000 from wheat grown through collective farming last year, shared Deu Kumari.
They have earned Rs 119,950 after they started the collective farming. The Group Chairperson mentioned that it has become much easier to do collective farming especially when there is lack of human resources for cultivation.
Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Service Expert Centre has supported one million rupees to construct sty for pig farming, she added.
Deu Kumari viewed, "It becomes easier and smoother to work collectively as well as to complete the work without hiring workers."
Information Officer at the Livestock Service Expert Centre, Krishna Neupane, shared that the office has supported the women group with an objective of helping them in income generation. (RSS)
