Kathmandu, Oct 6: The Weather Forecasting Division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has stated that although the monsoon retreated from the western region of the country this year, there is still a likelihood of rain in the Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.
The Division noted that although the monsoon receded, the influence of Westerly winds may lead to moderate rainfall in certain areas of the hilly, mountainous, and Terai regions of both Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces, particularly today and on Tuesday.
Currently, the majority of Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces are generally overcast, with light rain reported in one or two places within these provinces.
The Meteorology Department has also indicated a possibility of light snowfall in some mountainous areas of these provinces. It has advised taking special precaution as this weather may impact agriculture and tourism.
The Department further stated that the monsoon has begun its withdrawal from Nepal with a delay of four days. Typically, the monsoon exits by October 2, but this year it has only started to recede today, approximately four days later than usual.
"This year's monsoon has receded from numerous areas in Nepal's Far Western Province, Karnali Province, as well as the western parts of Lumbini Province, and a few regions in western Gandaki Province," the Department's statement reads.
Meteorologist Rojan Lamichhane from the Department said that the monsoon is generally active during its retreat phase. "Usually, the monsoon withdraws by October 2, but there are instances of delays. This year, the monsoon has retreated slightly later than the usual date," he explained. (RSS)
