2 dead, 3 injured in landslides, floods in Pachthar

By Radha Luitel, Phidim, Oct 5: Two persons have been killed in the landslide and flood caused by incessant rainfall in Tumbeba and Falgunanda Ruram Municipalities of Pachthar district.

Of the dead, Kanchhimaya Sherma, 79, of Tumbeba Rural Municipality-4, Oleni, died when her house got buried in the landslide while Misek Nembang, 17, of Falgunanda Rural Municipality-3, was swept away by Nibu stream, according to Rupesh Tamang, information officer at the Pachthar district police office.

Three others have been injured in landslides, according to Tamang. The injured are Manmaya Karki, 37, of Miklajung Rural Municipality-3, Dhan Bahadur Chemjong, 66, of Falgunanda Rural Municipality-5, Jaubari and Sukmaya Angdembe, 72, of Falgunanda Rural Municipality -1, Aalubari.

Information officer Tamang said that the police along with the locals are deployed for rescue and security as there was possibility of further damage as the incessant rainfall has not yet stopped.
