By Our Correspondent,Nepalgunj, Sept. 17: The historical Ramleela, which has been held in Nepalgunj for the past 150 years during the Dashain festival, has been postponed this year.
Santosh Kumar Kanodia, Chairman of the Ramleela Organising Committee, said the decision was made due to the ongoing nighttime curfew in Nepalgunj amid the Gen Z protest, taking into account peace and security concerns.
He added that the board of directors had taken this decision and noted that the Ramleela, traditionally performed every year at the Ramleela ground, had also been postponed for two consecutive years during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The first day of Dashain, celebrated as a symbol of the victory of truth over falsehood, is typically marked by Ramleela performances at the local Ramleela ground from 7 PM to midnight, from Ghatasthapana until Bijaya Dashami.
However, this year, the performance could not take place due to the abnormal situation and the nighttime curfew, according to Aditya Gupta, a committee member.
The Ramleela typically includes performances such as the Dhanush Yagna, Ravana's defeat, the meeting with Bharat, and the auspicious coronation of Ram, among other events.
